February 14 is a day we set aside to celebrate the ones we love the most! No matter if it is a goblet for drinking fine wine or a set of juice glasses you buy at the thrift store, hand painting glassware is a fun way to say “Happy Valentine’s Day!”

Step 1 – Prepare the glass by washing and drying thoroughly, then wiping with rubbing alcohol or white vinegar.

Step 2 – Draw a pattern or stencil on a piece of paper and tape to the inside of the glass.

Step 3 – Using a multi-surface acrylic paint or glass paint (inexpensive and purchased at any local craft store), apply the paint with a small craft brush.

Step 4 – Cure the paint. The easiest way to do this is to let air-dry for 21 days and from then on, handwash only! The best way to do this is to dry in an oven. From there it is quite durable and dishwasher safe, although it is still recommended to handwash to best protect your project.

To cure in oven:

  1. Allow glass to dry for 24 hours, then place in a cool.
  2. Set oven to 350ºF and bake for 30 minutes once temperature has reached 350ºF.
  3. Turn oven off and let project cool completely in oven. In 72 hours your glass will be safe in the top rack of a dishwasher! (NOT microwave.)

Step 5 – ENJOY! Fill with special candies or present with a bottle of wine! This is a gift your loved one will treasure.

Once you see how easy it is to make simple glassware come to life, you’ll consider every holiday…or maybe every Tuesday…a day to make someone’s day a little extra special!
